The short version

Click the Red Button does not have accounts and does not run advertising. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people find useful — that is the only tracking on the site, and it is not tied to any account, because there are no accounts. Your favorites, your history and which sites you have already been shown never leave your browser.

What stays in your browser

Your favorites, your history, which sites the shuffle has already shown you, and your light or dark preference are all kept in your browser’s local storage. That data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to us. Clearing your browser data clears all of it.

What we measure

Google Analytics tells us how many people visit, which pages and which sites get opened, roughly where in the world visitors are, and what kind of device they use. It sets cookies in your browser to recognise a repeat visit. We use it to decide what to add to the catalogue and what to write about — not to build a profile of you, which we could not do anyway, since we never ask who you are.

If you would rather not be counted, any browser-level tracking blocker or Global Privacy Control setting stops it, and nothing on the site breaks when it is blocked.

What the server sees

Pages are served by our host, which keeps ordinary web server logs — the request, a timestamp, and technical details like your browser version. When a site refuses to load in a frame, our server fetches that site’s title, description, and icon so we can show you a preview card. That request comes from our server, not from you, and the result is not stored against you.

External websites

The whole point of this site is sending you to other people’s sites. Once you are on one, you are subject to that site’s own privacy practices, which we neither control nor monitor. We would encourage you to read the privacy policy of anywhere you end up spending real time.

Children

The service is for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included — there is nothing to collect it with.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date at the top.
